Introduction

The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has officially released the Merit List (Panel and Waiting List) for the recruitment of assistant teachers in government-aided and sponsored schools for Classes 11 and 12. Released on January 21, 2026 (Wednesday), the list features the names of candidates who successfully cleared the final interview, along with those placed on the waiting list.

In addition, WBSSC has also published the list of unsuccessful candidates, ensuring transparency in the recruitment process.

This recruitment drive covers 12,514 vacancies for higher secondary schools. WBSSC has announced that recommendation letters will begin distribution from January 27, 2026, followed by the counselling process.

The commission had earlier promised to publish the panel before Saraswati Puja (January 23), but continuous government holidays prompted an earlier release. Although the Supreme Court extended the recruitment deadline until August 2026, the state government aims to complete the process before the upcoming Assembly elections.

Document verification was completed on December 4, 2025, across 35 subjects, with over 20,000 candidates participating. WBSSC clarified that names of ineligible candidates, including those with application errors or criminal records, have been removed.

The recruitment is part of the State Level Selection Test (SLST) held in September 2025, conducted after nine years to fill 35,726 teaching posts across Classes 9–12.
