WBCAP UG Admission 2025 1st Phase Application Date Extended

The West Bengal Higher Education Department has launched the Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP) for undergraduate admissions for the academic session 2025-26. The West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP) for undergraduate admissions (UG) in 2025 is now live, with registrations open from June 18, 2025, and closing on July 1, 2025, for Phase 1 of the admission process. Now the Application Date of 1st phase for the UG Admission 2025 has been extended till July 25, 2025. Eligible students can apply online through the official portal wbcap.in or via banglaruchchashiksha.wb.gov.in or wbsche.wb.gov.in.

How to Apply UG Admission 2025: Here’s in Details

  • Visit the official website: Access the portal via https://wbcap.in/, https://banglaruchchashiksha.wb.gov.in, or https://wbsche.wb.gov.in.
  • Register: Click on the registration link and provide the required information like your mobile number and email ID.
  • Login and Fill out the Application: Use your registration credentials to log in and proceed to complete the online application form with personal and academic details.
  • Upload Documents: Upload the necessary documents and testimonials as required.
  • Choose Preferences: Select up to 25 colleges and programs based on your choices and preferences.
  • Pay the Application Fee: The application fees need to be paid online through e-payment methods or at designated bank branches. Note that the application fee may not be required for the initial registration process.
  • Submit and Print: Submit the filled application form and take a printout for future reference.

Important Dates and Details:

  • Application Period: Online registration started on June 18, 2025, and the deadline has been extended until July 25, 2025.
  • Merit List and Allotment: The first merit list and seat allotment will be announced in July.
  • Admission against Allotment: Admissions based on the first allotment are scheduled for July.
  • Physical Verification: Physical verification of documents at the allotted colleges is scheduled from July 24 to 31, 2025.
  • Mop-up Phase: A mop-up phase for admissions will be conducted in August for those who missed the initial rounds or were not allotted seats.
  • Commencement of Classes: Classes for the new academic session will begin on August 1, 2025.

Eligibility:

Any student who has passed the Higher Secondary or equivalent examination from a recognized board or council is eligible to apply through the portal.
However, specific universities may have limitations regarding the year of passing, which applicants should verify before applying.

Key Features of the Centralised Admission Portal:

Transparency and Convenience: The portal streamlines the admission process, ensuring transparency and ease of application for students.
Extensive Coverage: The portal covers admissions to undergraduate programs in 460 government and government-aided general degree colleges and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across 17 universities in West Bengal.
No Application Fee (Initially): There is no application fee for the registration process.
Direct Communication: Applicants will receive notifications via SMS and email at every step of the process.

Excluded Institutions:

Presidency University, Jadavpur University, autonomous colleges, minority institutions, and institutions offering courses like engineering, pharmacy, medical, nursing, B.Ed., law, fine arts, etc. are excluded from the centralized portal.

It is advised to apply well before the deadline to avoid any last-minute technical glitches or delays.

Important Notice Regarding Category Details:

Having regard to orders which may be passed in Special Leave Petition being SLP No.… of 2025 (Diary No. 34016 of 2025) (State of West Bengal v Amal Chandra Das & Ors.) filed in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India arising out of judgment and order dated 17th June, 2025 of the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta in WPA(P) No.111 of 2025 (Amal Chandra Das vs State of West Bengal & Ors) and connected writ petitions, for the time being, Category Details are not being collected and will be collected in due course prior to the applications being processed.

Those who may have already submitted Category Details may be required to re-submit Category Details prior to such date.
Applicants will be notified, and link will be made available to submit and/or modify Category Details, if required.
Any final decision will be subject to outcome of the pending legal proceedings and no right will accrue in Favour of any applicant who may have already applied with certain Category Details.

Addendum Important Notice Regarding Category Details:

In terms of order dated 26th June 2025 in CPAN 1085 of 2025 (Purabi Das v Dr. Manoj Pant & Ors.), kindly note that: “the expression ‘receipt of all applications’ in the Centralised portal must also include, the original OBC category persons i.e. those in the existing classes of OBCs prior to 2010 as directed by this Court in the judgment dated 22nd May 2024 passed in WPO 60 of 2011.”

The judgment and order dated 22nd May 2024 in WPO No. 60 of 2011 passed by the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta has been challenged in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India being SLP Nos. 17751 to 17755 of 2024 (State of West Bengal vs. Amal Chandra Das) which is pending adjudication. This notice is being issued without prejudice to the rights of the parties in this SLP and connected matters.

In terms of the earlier notice regarding category details, it is re-iterated that any final decision on any application will be subject to further orders which may be passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in all the pending SLPs (including those mentioned at Sl. No. 2 above) and subject to outcome of the other pending legal proceedings.

Note: This addendum may be read as part of the ‘Important Notice Regarding Category Details’.

Important Information to know:

  • Centralised Admission Portal for the year 2025-26 has been launched by Bratya Basu, Honourable Minister-in-Charge, Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal on 17.06.2025 at 2.00 PM.
  • If applicants face difficulty in getting OTP in their email, they are requested to enter the same OTP that is received in their registered mobile number in the field.

The last date of Registration and Application for Phase-1 of admission is extended till 25.07.2025
